Remember Oliver (1996)
Remember Oliver was a band put together by singer/songwriter Jennifer Gross. Jen was Sherri’s best friend during the Silver Lake days of Dogpark, and she was at that Tuesday Night Music Club session Sherri and I went to on my first night in LA. Jen was living in Pasadena, and put this band together to showcase her songs. She asked me to play guitar, and though I was reluctant, I agreed. I liked her voice and music, but knowing I had not been able to deal with being in two bands simultaneously before I was afraid to commit myself to it. It turned out to be a fun side project and again, I got to play with really good session players. Nick Vincent played drums, and also produced the record. Lance Morrison on bass had played with Alanis Morissette, amongst others. Lance and I discovered we were both fans of Renaissance, so that was cool. I played only a few gigs with them, however, until finally I felt overwhelmed by being in two bands once again, and left. Jen replaced me with Bruce Watson. When it came time to record the album Bruce hadn’t been fully integrated into the band yet, and Jen invited me to play on half the songs. It was a short-lived project for me, but a great experience nonetheless.
